Sarajevo World Café on Social Entrepreneurship PDF Print E-mail
Written by Merima

Sarajevo World Café on Social Entrepreneurship was held at the Economy Faculty in Sarajevo, in Alpbach Initiative Group organisation. Jasmina Sabrihafizović, head of business community of Educational and Research Centre NAHLA, Erol Mujanović, marathonian and NGO Marathon manager, Tatjana Slijepčević, project and policy coordinator in Social Inclusion Foundation FBiH, Dženan Šarić, project manager of Mosaic Foundation and Kenan Rešo, Director of Federal Employment Bureau, discussed this topic with the Café participants.

Considering that Social Entrepreneurship as a term is not widely known in our country, Dženan Šarić explained that this phenomenon entered discussion several years ago in our country, whereas in the world it started developing in the ‘70s.  According to him, profit and non-profit organisations make two ends, and a perfect model of social entrepreneurship is between them. Therefore, the key is to find innovative and creative way of self-sustainability.

Tatjana Slijepčević presented Social Inclusion Foundation and their projects, for which the precondition was to have disabled persons involved. She also presented the first report/estimate on social entrepreneurship in BiH, realised by the Foundation two years ago. She accentuated that there is no unanimous law or a framework, which leaves space for misuse, due to what the profit does not return to those who need it most.

Kenan Rešo presented Bureau’s programs, which has an annual Self-employment public call. In that way they evaluate ideas, implementation possibilities and project sustainability to award small grants. He also stated some successful EU examples of social entrepreneurship.

Jasmina Sabrihafizović accentuated that there is no social entrepreneurship in BiH as a category and named UK as a good role model example, whereas Slovenia made the largest move of all regional countries.

Erol Mujanović presented Sarajevo semi-marathon project and accentuated the necessity of observing social entrepreneurship by activities, not by its registration. What makes a difference in social entrepreneurship is its objective, influence and manner of distributing the money gained by certain activities. He stated that each new idea makes space for community work and it is of importance for people to do what they love, which is later manifested in other fields, whether running or something else.
