A representative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT participated in the „Advocating Open Authority“ seminar where NGO sector representatives from BiH and the region discussed the importance of data transparency as defined by law. Open data are the data available in digital or machine-sensible format, without limitations regarding identity or user intention and without copyright fee.  The state as the largest manufacturer of information has the greatest responsibility for data publication that the citizens are entitled to in accordance with the Freedom Of Access To Information Act For The Federation Of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

BiH became the 65th member of a global initiative under the title “Open Government Partnership” on 24 September 2014 and thus assumed liability of publicising information.  The point of the OGP initiative is data openness, that is, public access to institutions’ data, in accordance with regulations and in a format apt for further processing and analysis.  It was concluded that the authorities in BiH do not provide free access to information and must harmonise with the OGP initiative principles. The NGO sector plays a significant role in advocating civil rights to access to information with the authorities, which is definitely an objective for the NGOs in BiH.

The seminar was organised by the Centre for Social Research Analitika, in collaboration with the CPI Foundation, Transparency International BiH and the Investigative Journalism Centre.
